Photo-etched grilles for the engine compartment of the Panther Ausf. D tank in 1:48 scale from the brand Hauler replace the solid plastic parts with a pierced metal mesh through which the innards of the hull can be seen. Intended for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A smaller, targeted set aimed at a single problem: the grilles over the engine compartment. In the kit these areas are molded as solid plastic with a suggested pattern, so at first glance they look like a blind plate. The etched part, by contrast, is genuinely pierced, so depth and shadow arise that plastic will never imitate. This is an accessory to a kit, not a model of a tank. The target kit is Tamiya.
The Panther Ausf. D was the first production version of the German medium tank Pz.Kpfw. V. The engine compartment in the rear part of the hull was closed from above by covers with cooling and air grilles, which on the real machine were formed by thin strips and mesh. For precisely that reason it is a detail on a model that cannot be convincingly replaced by a plastic molding.
The plastic pattern has to be either cut away completely and the opening cut through, or at least sanded flat, so that the etched part seats. Under the pierced grille it is advisable to insert a darkly painted backing or to suggest the interior, so that the openings do not shine emptily. Separate the parts with a scalpel and glue them with a minimal amount of cyanoacrylate around the perimeter. Degrease the metal and spray it with primer. When painting, deliberately leave a darker tone in the grille, so that the depth is emphasized.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the basic kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
