A diorama base representing paving of large stones in a sandstone finish, intended for 1:48 scale. It is made by the Czech specialist in diorama accessories Plusmodel. A paved area is the quickest way to set a model in a credible environment; instead of an abstract board, the equipment stands on a real street or courtyard.
Large sandstone cobblestones characterize older European building, that is squares, barracks courtyards, ramps and city streets. In 1:48 scale it suits aircraft taxiing over a hard standing, military equipment and figures alike. The texture of the stones also reacts beautifully to modeling techniques of shading, so even a small vignette gains depth.
Prime the surface and paint it in irregular variations; lighten or darken individual stones locally so that the area does not come across as monotonous. A dark wash will bring the joints out, and fine drybrushing will pick the edges of the stones out. Pigments in the corners and along the curbs will add the dust and dirt of years of use; any puddles can be created with gloss varnish.
The base is supplied unpainted. Paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
