The set brings parts etched from thin metal sheet for the model of the Phantom in the FGR Mk.2 version in 1:48 scale. Metal comes into its own wherever the real machine has thin sheet, a wire grille or a narrow strip: such features necessarily come out thicker in a kit, because otherwise the mold could not cope with them. The result is a model that looks finer without any need to alter its shape.
The Phantom FGR Mk.2 is the British form of the two-seat twin-engine F-4 Phantom II, adapted for the needs of the Royal Air Force. The abbreviation in the designation refers to the machine's three roles: fighter, ground attack and reconnaissance. The cabin with two seats in tandem and the intricate surface of the airframe give add-on sets plenty of scope. The British machines also differ from the American form in a number of particulars, so their builders pay more attention than usual to detail.
Separate the parts from the sheet with a sharp blade on a hard surface and level the remnant of the tab with a file. Make the bend in the marked score line over a straight edge or in a bending tool. Use super glue in a minute amount; excess fogs the surroundings and is hard to remove from metal. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and lay a primer for metal surfaces over it, or the coat will lift in time. It pays to paint the smallest parts while they are still in the sheet and separate them last, or they will fly off and be searched for in vain.
The aircraft model, paints, glue and tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
