This is a set of decals, not a kit. The SPACE range from the Czech manufacturer Eduard builds on decals with a raised, three-dimensional surface: once applied they do not look like a flat film but like detail that stands out. They are put to work mainly in the cockpit, where there are the most small elements that would otherwise have to be picked out laboriously with a brush.
The base should be smooth and glossy; on a matte surface, lightened edges form around the film. It is a good idea to degrease the surface before applying, to lift the element off the dampened backing paper with tweezers and to fix it with PVA glue, and no decal softener and no decal setter are used. That ties the transition between the decal and the surrounding paint together.
The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet single-seat fighter aircraft with retractable landing gear, one of the first modern monoplanes of its time. It fought in Spain, in the Far East and in the first months of the German attack on the Soviet Union. The version designated Type 10 is among the variants with an open cockpit and strengthened machine gun armament, thanks to which the cockpit is clearly visible on a finished model.
