Pratt & Whitney R-1830 1:48 is a detailed resin model of the Twin Wasp radial engine, meant as an accessory for plastic models of aircraft powered by this engine. Intended for the Revell or Monogram kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a standalone detail set from Metallic Details, not an aircraft model. The box holds finely cast resin parts for building a faithful miniature of the American R-1830 radial engine. It serves to raise the realism of an exposed engine section markedly, or as a display piece in its own right in 1:48 scale. The intended kits are Revell or Monogram.
The Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp is an American air-cooled two-row fourteen-cylinder radial engine from the late 1930s and the 1940s. It was among the most widely used aircraft engines of its day and powered a whole range of combat and transport aircraft of the Second World War. The set captures the characteristic arrangement of the cylinders, the finning and the valve gear.
Before gluing, wash the remains of the mold release agent off the resin parts, separate them carefully from the casting blocks and bond them with cyanoacrylate glue. Wear respiratory protection while sanding. The engine comes into its own once it is painted in metallic shades and the valve gear is picked out lightly with a dark wash.
This is not a complete aircraft model but a detail accessory. The base Revell or Monogram kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
