A photo-etched set from the Czech maker Hauler in 1:48 scale for the plastic model of the Pz.Kpfw. III tank in the Ausf. N version. The set is cut for the Tamiya kit and replaces the plastic parts where the thickness of the material is most conspicuous in this scale. The model itself is not included in the package.
The Ausf. N was a late version of the Pz.Kpfw. III. Instead of an anti-tank gun it got a short 75 mm barrel taken over from the Pz.Kpfw. IV, which turned it into a support machine against fortified targets and personnel rather than a match for enemy tanks. Vehicles of this version were built and converted in 1942 and 1943 and accompanied, among others, units with heavy tanks.
With photo-etch, what matters is which parts you glue on before painting and which afterwards. Parts that form a single whole with the armor belong on the model before spraying, so that the same shade and the same weathering cover them. Small items that break off easily, grab handles, clasps and fine brackets for instance, are sensibly glued onto a painted hull and touched in with a brush. Degrease the metal before spraying and go over it with a primer for metal. When gluing, use super glue in negligible drops; any excess immediately floods the fine detail on photo-etch and the engraving disappears.
This is an accessory set, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
