A self-adhesive template of the British type C1 national insignia for 1:48 scale. This is the later roundel with narrow rings, completed by a thin yellow outline around the perimeter as British machines wore it on the sides of the fuselage from 1942. The stated contents are one national insignia mask; glazing masks and decals are not included. The paint is applied straight over the film.
Responsibility details are not available.
The narrowed roundel of the second half of the war had its fuselage counterpart as well, completed by a thin yellow ring around the outer edge. The result was a marking that joins two opposing needs: the colored core itself is restrained and inconspicuous from above, while the yellow outline makes sure the marking does not lose its legibility against dark camouflage on the side. In this form British fighters and ground-attack machines flew over western Europe from 1942, and it stayed on many aircraft even after the fighting ended. For the model builder it is a detail that tells a machine of the early period from one of the closing stages of the war without anything changing on the camouflage.
A template need not ruin only its own layer. If the coat beneath it has not cured enough or adheres badly, the adhesive takes a piece of the base with it as it is lifted and a bare patch down to the plastic stays on the model. The most reliable prevention is to reduce the tack, that is to press the film once against the back of your hand or against a piece of cloth before applying it. It matters just as much to give the base coat enough time and to mask only over a surface that is cured all the way through, not merely dry to the touch.
