Pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the outer face of the glazing of a Rafale C model in 1:48 scale. This is an aid for painting, not a kit. The double-sided variant, which additionally has masks for the inner face of the glass, is a separate item.
The Academy kit serves as the basis; it is bought separately.
Models of contemporary combat aircraft are usually sprayed smooth and with very fine transitions, which puts demands on the edge of a mask. The base under a mask has to be smooth, so after sticking the masks on, run a stick over the glass once more and make sure the edge does not stand away anywhere. Apply the paint in several really thin coats. One heavy coat creates a noticeable step at the edge of the mask, and on a glossy surface that shows as soon as the gloss varnish for the decals goes on. If you also plan a richer shade for the frame, spray it in the last coats so that the step does not grow. Before taking the mask off, it pays to run a scalpel lightly along its edge; a varnish coat that has dried through then does not tear away in a strip.
The Dassault Rafale C is the single-seat land-based version of the French multirole combat aircraft, with a delta wing and canard surfaces. The canopy is large and without transverse framing, so the masked edge is conspicuous on a finished model and is worth spending time on.
The kit and paints are not included in the package. Check the number of mask parts and the material of the film on the packaging of the set.
