This is a set of fine photo-etched brass parts for refining the plastic model of the RF-4E Phantom II in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a model of the aircraft but an accessory that replaces and completes details which are hard to injection-mold in plastic - fine panels, grilles, loops, cockpit features and other small equipment. The set is meant for more experienced modelers who want to lift the model above what comes out of the box.
The RF-4E was the unarmed tactical reconnaissance Phantom II - a two-seat twin-engined aircraft with a lengthened nose in which reconnaissance cameras and sensors were installed in place of the radar and the cannon. The export version was operated by a number of foreign air forces. The machine was based on the proven Phantom design with J79 engines.
Separate the parts from the fret carefully with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and bend them along the marked lines, ideally in a photo-etch bending tool. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), and on larger areas a two-part glue helps as well. The color and instrument parts are usually self-adhesive. The work calls for tweezers, patience and a steady hand, so we recommend the set to advanced modelers.
It is supplied as a photo-etched set for finishing a plastic model, unpainted. It is not a model of the aircraft; the plastic kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
