A scenic accessory for dioramas in 1:48 scale. It is used to build or repair the roof of a building in a scene, to cover an outbuilding or a shed, or to suggest stacked tiling by a building under construction. The accessory is not a kit of an aircraft or a vehicle — it is a building element of a diorama, fitted onto a roof structure of your own.
Compared with an imitation made from paper or a smooth plastic sheet, cast tiling has real thickness, so a genuine shadow appears between the rows and the roof stops looking like a printed surface. The Italian-type designation refers to tiling of the Mediterranean kind, which together with the render and the shutters gives a building the character of a southern European house. Form B is a separate variant alongside form A. If you are building a larger whole, it is worth considering combining both variants — roofs in one street differ in reality and a scene gains from it.
Lay from the bottom up with the rows overlapping and shift the upper rows slightly, because perfect regularity makes a roof flat. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting and prime them with a thin primer. Spray the base in a warm brick tone and then tune the individual tiles with lighter and darker shades; the point is not accuracy but breaking up a uniform surface. A dark wash will bring out the joints and a dry brush will pick out the ridges and the edges. In the shaded areas and at the gutter add a grayish or greenish tinge to suggest moss and streaking. Glue resin parts with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary plastic cement does not hold on them.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
