This accessory set from the Czech manufacturer Plus Model brings a resin replica of the Soviet R-23T air-to-air guided missile in 1:48 scale. The set is not a model of an aircraft; it is external armament whose home was above all the pylons of the MiG-23 fighter.
The medium-range R-23 missile (AA-7 Apex in the NATO reporting system) from the Vympel design bureau was created to measure for the MiG-23 fighter and its weapons system. The R-23T version carries a passive infrared seeker head; after launch it homes on the heat emission of the target itself and needs no further support from the radar of the carrier. It differs from the radar R-23R at first glance in the shape of the nose with its characteristic sensor. In practice MiG-23 aircraft tended to carry both versions together: the radar one for an attack at greater range, the infrared one as a complement for various combat situations.
Wash the resin parts free of the mold release agent and sand the marks lightly after cutting the casting blocks off. Use cyanoacrylate glue to join them; line the large stabilizers up so that the replica hangs straight on the pylon. Paint according to period photographs; a light body, a darker seeker head and a fine wash in the parting lines will give a small accessory a credible look.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
