A photo-etched accessory set for a model of the SB2U-3 Vindicator carrier dive bomber in 1:48 scale. The metal parts replace and supplement the details that plastic cannot manage at small sizes.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Vought SB2U Vindicator was an American carrier-based scout and dive bomber from the second half of the 1930s. It was an all-metal low-wing machine with retractable landing gear that replaced biplanes on carrier decks, but by the start of the war it was already falling behind the newer types. The SB2U-3 version was the last production form and made its name with the Marine Corps squadrons that took it into action in the Pacific.
These are photo-etched parts from thin metal sheet. Photo-etch does what injection-molded plastic cannot: it carries a thickness of tenths of a millimeter, so belts, frames, grilles and flat pieces look thin and precise even after painting. The exact makeup of the fret and the placement of the individual parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions; follow them too when deciding which plastic parts to remove before gluing.
Cut the parts out with a sharp blade on a hard surface; do not snap them out, or a burr will be left on the edge. Make the bends over a metal ruler or in a bending tool, so that the edges come out crisp. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a tiny quantity, best of all with a pin. Wash and degrease the metal before painting and spray on a primer, or the top coat will rub off.
The model of the aircraft, the glue and the paints are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
