Spitfire Mk. V SPACE 1:48 is a set of three-dimensional decals from Eduard for a detailed finish of the cockpit — an accessory for a model, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
SPACE is a range from the Czech manufacturer Eduard of Obrnice near Most in which interior details are supplied as pre-printed colored decals with a three-dimensional relief. They are applied directly to the parts of a kit and take the place of laborious hand painting of the instrument panel and the side panels of the cockpit. The result is legible, sharply printed detail without having to paint tiny dials with a brush. This set is aimed at the Supermarine Spitfire in the Mk.V version in 1:48 scale, and it is a decal set, not a kit.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V was the most numerously produced version of the whole Spitfire family in the period around 1941 to 1943. It came about above all by installing a more powerful engine in the airframe of the previous version, and it was built in several sub-versions differing in armament and in wing modifications. It served on the European and Mediterranean fronts, and over the production period several variants of equipment passed through its cockpits. That is exactly why it pays to compare interior sets with photographs of the particular machine you are building.
First clean the parts the decals go onto carefully and spray them with a smooth glossy base — on a rough matte surface a three-dimensional decal will not settle and silvers around the edges. Moisten only the backing paper under the decal, a sponge with a drop of detergent is enough, and transfer the element to the part with flat-jawed tweezers. Fix it with white PVA glue; a decal softener does not belong on relief elements, as its chemistry attacks the printed resin. Seat them by pressing carefully with a soft brush, let them dry thoroughly and finally even the surface out with a matte varnish, so that the cockpit does not give a glossy impression.
This is an accessory decal set, not a kit of the aircraft. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
