This resin set from Quickboost, a brand of the Czech maker Aires, brings finely cast barrels for the onboard guns of a model of the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers, replacing the coarser plastic barrels with a crisper and more exact casting.
The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter and one of the icons of the Second World War. The Mk.V version was among the most widespread and was powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine. Depending on the wing type, the armament consisted of a combination of machine guns and 20 mm cannon whose barrels projected from the wing leading edge.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the barrels with super glue (cyanoacrylate) and watch that they line up. Test the fit dry before painting.
The set is supplied as a resin part, unassembled and unpainted. It is not an airplane model but an accessory for a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
