1:48 Spitfire Mk.V in the markings of wing commanders is a decal sheet from DK Decals. It focuses on machines flown by wing commanders, on which personal markings instead of the usual squadron codes were customary.

This is a decal sheet, that is an accessory for a kit already bought, not a model. The sheet is produced for 1:48 scale and its theme is defined unambiguously: Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V machines flown by wing commanders. The number of schemes offered, the extent of the additional lettering and the presence of national insignia are stated on the box of the sheet; its main value, though, is its theme.
The Spitfire Mk.V was the most numerously built version of the whole family, powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 series engine and produced with several wing standards that differed in armament. That is precisely why it appears in 1:48 from many makers and why demand for alternative markings is high. The particularity of the machines the sheet concentrates on is the way they were marked: a wing commander usually did not carry the code letters of a particular squadron, because he did not command only one, but carried his personal initials on the fuselage.
The base has to be smooth and glossy, because matte clear coat undercuts a decal with microscopic bubbles and silvering results. So apply gloss clear coat and only then the decals. Cut the sheet as close to the subject as possible so that a minimum of carrier film is left. Soak briefly in lukewarm water and let the decal slide off the paper onto the model itself. On riveted and detailed surfaces use decal softener in layers and let it work; do not press on the decal until it has softened, otherwise it will tear. Once dry, go over the whole model with more gloss clear coat, pick out the panel lines and only at the end give it the matte finish you want.
