This resin detail set from the manufacturer Eduard holds a pair of open wing gun bays for models of the Spitfire Mk.VIII in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of an airplane but an aftermarket accessory, with which you will open up the armament in the leading edge of the wing and raise the detail of a model. Photo-etched parts tend to be enclosed with the resin.
The C type wing of the Spitfire (the universal one) as well as the E type allowed machine guns and 20 mm cannon to be combined. The gun bays hid the weapons, the ammunition magazines and the openings for the barrels; in period photographs they appear open above all during maintenance and the replenishing of ammunition.
The set counts on the space in the wing of the base kit being cut out, which is why it calls for care. Wash the parts clean of the mold release agent, separate them from the casting blocks and glue them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Bring the inside of the bays out with a wash and the metal parts with a dry brush; wear respiratory protection while sanding.
This is an accessory, not a model in its own right. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
