A smaller format of a subject that MN-hobby also carries in other scales of its figure range. The figure represents a strazmistr, a gendarmerie NCO, and the year 1920 places him at the very beginning of the First Republic. The 1:48 scale suits places where a scene is to be suggested rather than written out in detail, and it combines easily with aircraft kits of the same format.
Strazmistr was the basic rank of the rank-and-file gendarmerie, the force that provided the security service outside the large towns. The year 1920 falls in the time when the uniform of the young state was still settling and in many respects followed on from earlier habits. The appearance that most people connect with the force from the later 1930s it did not yet have.
In 1:48 scale it does not pay to paint every button. It is more effective to work with the contrast of the whole: a darker uniform, a lighter face, clearly differentiated accessories. Use heavily thinned coats and let them dry, otherwise the small surfaces quickly clog. A base with earth or grass cover anchors the figure better than a bare board.
Before painting it is worth washing the surface and getting the grease of handling off it.
