Six field stretchers cast in resin from the Czech brand Black Dog. The set belongs to the range of accessories for dioramas, where it fills the role of small prop equipment: leaned against a wall, folded on the bed of a vehicle or laid out at a dressing station. The casting captures the frame as well as the stretched canvas in one piece, so they are quick to work with. The same brand offers stretchers for the neighboring scales too.
Stretchers were among the most common inventory of dressing stations, ambulances and airfield rescue teams. Their form barely changed throughout the twentieth century: two wooden or tubular poles, canvas stretched between them and handles with folding legs at the ends. That is precisely why they suit scenes from the Second World War right up to the present. In a diorama they work as a quiet narrator, because they tell the viewer at once what is happening at the moment depicted.
Wash the castings with warm water and detergent, so that they are rid of the residues of the mold release agent, and let them dry. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the area smooth. We recommend painting the canvas in a shade corresponding to period equipment and adding uneven soiling, because new stretchers barely existed in the field. The frames stand out when the wood is first painted lighter and then brought down with dark glazing.
