Photo-etched fenders for the StuG III Ausf. G in 1:48 scale from Hauler replace the coarse plastic fenders with thin metal that can be bent and damaged.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of photo-etched fenders for the model of the German StuG III Ausf. G assault gun in 1:48 scale. This is not a kit but a replacement for one particular assembly that almost never looks good straight from the kit in this scale. The parts are cut for the Tamiya kit.
A fender is in reality a thin folded sheet carried on small brackets. Injection-molded plastic cannot reproduce that - the edge of the fender is several centimeters thick in scale and the brackets merge into the hull. A photo-etched fender has the correct thickness and relief and, above all, it can be bent. Fenders were the most exposed part of a combat vehicle, routinely bent, torn off or missing altogether. A model with honestly worked fenders therefore looks used, not like a display piece from the factory floor.
Work from the back forwards and glue in short sections, so that the long part does not twist. Make the lengthwise bend of the fender in a bender before you put the part against the model. Shape the deformations on a soft surface with a blunt tip, and rather carefully and repeatedly than once with force. Cut the original plastic fenders off only after a dry run, so that you keep a reference for the position. Degrease the metal with alcohol, spray primer and paint it together with the hull. In the weathering give the fenders separate attention: a build-up of mud, paint worn off the edges and rust where the sheet is bent make the greatest impression.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; it is an accessory for a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
