A plastic kit of the German StuG III Ausf.B assault gun in 1:48 scale from Tamiya, part of the popular military miniature line in this scale. The model is distinguished by nicely rendered detail, including sagged tracks and surface texture, and by a metal lower hull that gives the finished piece a pleasant heft. The package contains decals for several marking options.
The StuG III was originally designed as an assault weapon on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw. III tank, with a short 75 mm gun built directly into the hull without a rotating turret, which lowered its silhouette. The Ausf.B version was the first truly series-produced variant, of which over 250 were built from 1940. Gradually the assault gun also became an effective defensive and anti-tank weapon.
The smaller scale makes for a quicker build, yet it is still worth finishing the running gear before closing the hull. Glue the plastic with liquid cement. The base gray shade of early German vehicles comes out well with an airbrush, and the details can be accentuated with washes and dry brushing. Dust and mud pigments will add realistic weathering. Apply the decals over a gloss base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
