An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet Sukhoi Su-17UM3 Fitter-G fighter-bomber in 1:48 scale from the company Hobby Boss. It is the two-seat combat trainer version with the seats in tandem. The model offers a richly broken down cockpit, an engraved panel structure, separate control surfaces and a movable variable-geometry wing, as well as optional positions of the canopy, the landing gear and the airbrakes, rubber tires and a range of external stores. Photo-etched parts and decals for Soviet machines are included too.
The Su-17 was the first Soviet combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, derived from the Su-7 series. The outer sections of the wing pivoted, which improved the takeoff and landing qualities and the load-carrying ability. The UM3 version served as the two-seat trainer counterpart of the single-seat Su-17M3 with identical avionics, so it allowed training as well as combat use. The machine was powered by a powerful jet engine and carried a wide range of bombs and rockets.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue them with thin liquid cement for plastic, and the fine photo-etched parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Apply a primer before painting and spray the camouflage with an airbrush in thin coats. Accentuate the engraved panel structure with a fine wash and mask the canopy glazing. On the model the movable wing can be built in various positions.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
