Eduard 1:48 Supermarine Seafire F.XVII exterior is a photo-etched set of metal parts for the exterior of a model of the carrier-borne Seafire in 1:48 scale. It refines shapes that cannot be produced in plastic.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard contains photo-etched metal parts intended for the exterior of a model of the carrier-borne Seafire F.XVII in 1:48 scale. It concentrates on the places where injection-molded plastic runs up against its technological limits: thin sheet metal covers, grilles, small faces and strips look considerably more faithful in photo-etched metal, because they have a real thickness that matches the scale. The accessory is used during the build of the model, where it replaces or completes the plastic parts of the airframe.
The Seafire is the naval form of the Spitfire, adapted for operation from aircraft carriers. The F.XVII version follows on from the carrier-borne Mk.XV with the Griffon engine and brought several fundamental changes: a cut-down fuselage spine with a bubble canopy, which gave the pilot a view to the rear, strengthened landing gear with a longer stroke of the shock absorbers because of the hard touchdowns onto the deck, and further modifications for naval service. The machines served with the Fleet Air Arm even after the Second World War, with training and reserve units above all.
Degrease the photo-etched metal before gluing and bend it in a bender or on a hard edge, ideally in two stages. A very small amount of cyanoacrylate glue is enough to hold it; an excess whitens on the surface and is hard to remove. On the outer surfaces it is good to seat the parts before the main painting, so that the transition between the metal and the plastic can be oversprayed in one go. A primer meant for metal surfaces will do the metal good.
