Eduard 1:48 Supermarine Seafire F.XVII seatbelts STEEL is a seat harness of photo-etched steel for the pilot's seat of a model of the Seafire in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard contains a photo-etched seat harness of the pilot's seat for a model of the Seafire F.XVII in 1:48 scale. The STEEL design means that the harness is made of steel, and that matters for this kind of accessory: photo-etched steel keeps its shape after bending considerably better than a softer metal, so the harness can be convincingly bent over the edge of the seat and left to hang freely, instead of looking like a flat strip stuck onto plastic.
The simplest way of improving the cockpit
The harness is a small item, but one that everybody notices on an open cockpit. An empty seat without a harness is one of the first things that give away the production rendering on a model, and putting it right takes a single small part instead of a comprehensive set.
The Seafire is the naval version of the Spitfire for operation from aircraft carriers. The F.XVII version follows on from the carrier-borne Mk.XV with the Griffon engine, and was given a cut-down fuselage spine with a bubble canopy and strengthened landing gear with a longer stroke of the shock absorbers because of the hard touchdowns onto the deck. The machines served with the Fleet Air Arm after the Second World War as well.
Separate the harness with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, make the bends with tweezers with flat jaws and form them gradually, so that it waves smoothly. It is glued with a small drop of cyanoacrylate glue; an excess would whiten on a painted surface. It belongs onto the seat before the fuselage is closed up, otherwise there is no getting into the cockpit.
