1:48 Sw.36 Searchlight Crew, sitting / standing with binoculars are figures of the crew of an anti-aircraft searchlight in the poses given in the name, that is a seated figure and a standing figure with binoculars.
Responsibility details are not available.
The CMK set completes a scene with the human figure, without which even carefully built equipment looks empty. It is not a model of the searchlight itself, but of its crew: the name gives a seated pose and a standing figure with binoculars, that is two different attitudes suited to a static scene of a crew on watch.
The abbreviation Sw.36 refers to a German anti-aircraft searchlight sixty centimeters in diameter, used in the Second World War together with a towed carriage. Searchlights of this kind worked together with sound locators and with anti-aircraft batteries: the crew watched the sky, caught the target in the cone and held it in the beam for firing. The seated pose and the standing pose with binoculars match this way of serving, because a considerable part of the work consisted of observing and waiting.
In 1:48 scale the face and the uniform decide the result. A base coat, thin glazes for the flesh and a fine bringing out of the edges of the cloth work well, so that the figure does not look flat. Bring out the color transition between the uniform and the equipment with a shade somewhat darker, not with black. Finish the figure separately and glue it to the base only at the end, so that it is easy to hold in the hand. Remove the small casting gates carefully; in this scale they would be conspicuous once painted.
