A color photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale for a plastic model of the TBD-1 Devastator carrier torpedo bomber. The parts arrive already printed, so the instrument panels, consoles and belts call for no hand painting of tiny dials and lettering. Thin metal also allows a thickness a plastic part will never reach. The set holds no model of the aircraft: it is an aftermarket upgrade for a kit you have already bought.
The Douglas TBD-1 Devastator was an American carrier torpedo bomber from the first half of the 1930s. For its day it was an advanced machine: an all-metal stressed-skin low-wing aircraft with an enclosed cockpit, retractable landing gear and hydraulically folding wings for stowage below deck. The crew of three sat under long glazing. The rapid development of aviation, however, moved it among the obsolete types within a few years, and in the second half of the war it was no longer in service.
The color parts are not oversprayed, as the printing is the finished surface. Separate them with a scalpel on a hard surface and glue them with a minute amount of cyanoacrylate applied on a pin. Assemble the layered instrument panels exactly as the instructions say; a drop of gloss clear or of two-part resin suits the dials for a glass effect. First shape the belts with tweezers so that they drape naturally over the seat. Finish the whole interior before you close the fuselage, because after that the parts are out of reach.
The package holds photo-etched parts only. The aircraft model, glue and paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
