This is a set of fine etched brass parts for sharpening a plastic model of the Grumman TBF-1 Avenger in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit or an aircraft model but an accessory that replaces and completes detail which is hard to mold in plastic — fine panels, grilles, loops, cockpit elements and other small equipment. The set is meant for more experienced modelers who want to lift a model above out-of-the-box level.
The Grumman TBF-1 Avenger was an American carrier torpedo bomber of the Second World War. The rugged three-seat machine with its dorsal gun turret and a roomy bomb bay was powered by a Wright radial engine. It had its baptism of fire at Midway and became the main carrier torpedo aircraft of the US Navy.
Separate the parts carefully from the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and bend them along the marked lines, ideally in a photo-etch bending tool. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), and on larger surfaces a two-part adhesive helps. Color and instrument parts are usually self-adhesive. The work calls for tweezers, patience and a steady hand, which is why the set is best suited to advanced modelers.
Supplied as an etched set for finishing a plastic model, unpainted. It is not an aircraft model; the plastic kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
