A decal sheet in 1:48 scale for the German Panavia Tornado IDS with the fuselage number 44+61 in the festive finish for the fortieth anniversary of the type, 2014.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Luftwaffe marked four decades of Tornado service in 2014 and one particular example received a colorful memento – the Tornado IDS with the fuselage number 44+61. The arithmetic in the name fits to the year: the Tornado prototype took off on 14 August 1974, so 2014 is exactly the fortieth. The German phrase 40 Jahre Tornado in the designation of the sheet refers to exactly this celebration.
The Panavia Tornado came about as a joint work of Germany, Britain and Italy, and its identifying mark is a wing with variable sweep. The IDS version is intended for attacks on ground targets, typically at low level and in any weather; the crew consists of a pilot and a weapons operator. The Luftwaffe marks its machines with five characters in the form of two pairs of figures joined by a plus sign, so 44+61 is an ordinary German military code, not a construction number.
The jubilee artwork covers large areas of the vertical tail surface and the fuselage, and it therefore needs a smooth gloss base. Let a painted model mature properly before decaling, work with warm water and help it with a softener in broken-up places, so that the film follows the rivets and the panel lines.
