A set of precisely pre-cut self-adhesive painting masks from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the British BAC TSR-2 strike and reconnaissance aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit and it is not a model — it is an accessory that makes it easy to paint the canopy glazing and other small areas cleanly. The TSR-2 had a crew of two, so the masks cover the framing of both cockpits in tandem; they stick straight onto the parts and so give sharp, straight edges without any laborious cutting of masking tape. Sets of this type usually also include circular masks for the wheel rims.
The BAC TSR-2 was a British supersonic tactical strike and reconnaissance aircraft developed at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s as a replacement for the Canberra. It was designed to penetrate well-defended territory fast and at low level and to carry both conventional and nuclear weapons. The prototype first flew in 1964, but the program was canceled on cost grounds in 1965, so the aircraft never went beyond the prototype stage. Two cockpits in tandem mean more glazing frames, which is where the masks save the most work.
Lift each mask off the backing carefully with tweezers or the tip of a knife and lay it on a dry, degreased surface. Press the edges down firmly so that paint cannot bleed underneath. Apply the paint in thin coats, ideally with an airbrush, and pull the mask off before the coat hardens completely. On strongly curved shapes it helps to seal the edge with masking fluid.
This is a set of painting masks, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
