The U-2R is an enlarged version of the high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft U-2, the aircraft known by the nickname Dragon Lady. Against the original machine it received a considerably longer span and more room for reconnaissance equipment. It works at such an altitude that the pilot sits in a pressure suit; the slender glider-like wing and the wheels arranged one behind the other meanwhile make landing one of the most demanding disciplines flown in any air force.
The set brings photo-etched metal parts in 1:48 scale for a model of the U-2R. Thin metal allows details to be rendered that in injection-molded plastic would come out needlessly thick, and it picks out the division of the surface and the small equipment. The exact list of parts and their placing on the model can be found in the instructions from the manufacturer.
Separate the features with a sharp knife on a hard surface and level what remains of the tab with a fine file or abrasive paper. Longer bends can be handled by a photo-etch bending tool, while shorter ones are clamped between the jaws of flat tweezers. Glue the metal parts with super glue, and larger areas with epoxy. Before painting, degrease the surface and lay a thin primer under it; the U-2 usually wears dark matte finishes, on which every greasy fingerprint shows.
The set suits a modeler who has experience of building and wants to finish off the areas where plastic is at the limit of what it can do. Tweezers, a sharp blade and good light make the work easier. The contents of the delivery follow the information from the manufacturer; the kit, paints and glue are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
