The sheet holds masking templates of letters and numerals of the American type for aircraft models in 1:48 scale. The characters are transferred from the sheet onto the model, the edges are pressed down and the area is oversprayed with paint; once the mask is lifted off the marking stays painted rather than applied. The number at the end of the name tells the individual sheets within the line apart; the companion items carry different numbers. Check the height of the characters and their quantity with the maker according to how large a marking you need.
A sprayed character has no carrier film, so no glossy outline appears around it, which is what often gives a decal away. The marking also behaves as part of the finish: it can be toned, weathered and sanded along with the surrounding area. That comes in useful on aircraft with a scuffed and sun-faded surface, where a new, perfectly smooth decal would look out of place.
