A resin kit of a US Air Force starter trolley in 1:48 scale from the CMK brand. It is not an aircraft model but a piece of airfield ground equipment, built on its own. In a display case it works as an addition to a model of a jet, because it is exactly these small things that create a believable airfield setting around an aircraft. The model is meant to be glued and painted, and working with resin differs from working with plastic.
A starter trolley is a mobile unit that gives a jet engine the energy it needs to spin up during starting. On older combat aircraft the engine would not run up on its own, so without a trolley like this the machine never took off. Equipment of this type was therefore ordinary kit on US Air Force flight lines and usually stood right beside parked aircraft, connected to them by a hose or a cable. The trolleys were noisy, space-saving and quickly became worn in service, which is good news for the modeler, because they take marked weathering.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water first, to remove the mold release agent from the mold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and finish the surfaces wet, with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Lay down a primer before painting; on a smooth resin surface that is a necessity. Build the weathering up in layers: a dark wash in the pressed sections of the frame, chipped paint on the edges and handles, oil stains around the unit and dust on the wheels. The model stands out on a piece of concrete apron with a figure of ground crew, which gives the scene its sense of scale.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
