It is not a kit but a small accessory photo-etched set: the harness belts of the pilot's seat. At Eduard the STEEL range is etched from steel instead of the usual brass. Steel sheet is springier and holds its shape once bent, and thanks to that the belts look as though they were lying loosely across the seat, which is harder to achieve with stiff brass photo-etched parts. The parts are finished in color, so they do not have to be sprayed once applied. The set covers both versions given in the name, that is, the FB.5 and the FB.9.
The de Havilland Vampire was a British jet fighter with a short fuselage nacelle and two tail booms, powered by a de Havilland Goblin engine. The FB.5 is the fighter-bomber version with a strengthened wing for carrying bombs and rockets, and the FB.9 is its tropicalized equivalent supplemented with cabin cooling for service in a hot climate. Both versions flew with the Royal Air Force and with a number of foreign operators.
Separate the belts with a scalpel, not with nippers. Bend them carefully with your fingers over a blunt edge, because steel takes more than brass but cracks after several bends in the same place. You achieve a natural sag by first letting the belt fall loosely over the edge of the seat and only then fixing it at a single point with a drop of super glue. Glue the metal buckles home and wipe the excess glue away before it dries, because on a colored surface it leaves a white film. Fit the seat with the belts only after the whole cockpit has been painted.
