This is not a kit but an add-on set of photo-etched metal parts for a plastic model of the American carrier fighter Vought F4U-1D Corsair in 1:48 scale. The metal parts replace or supplement plastic parts where a scale thickness and a crisp edge are needed, that is typically on small fittings, grilles and interior structures. It is made by Eduard, a Czech company from Obrnice near Most. It is a full photo-etched set, not a smaller set from the Zoom line. Check the contents of the package and the number of parts on the box of the set.
The Corsair is among the most easily recognized fighters of its day thanks to its inverted gull wing, which made it possible to use short landing gear under a large propeller. The F4U-1D version was a later fighter and attack variant with a one-piece canopy and the ability to carry stores under the center of the wing. The combination of a long fuselage, an inverted gull wing and a radial engine makes the Corsair a rewarding model on which detail pays off.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and sand off the remains of the tabs. Make the bends in a photo-etch bender or over a straight edge, and hold tiny parts with tweezers. Glue metal to plastic with cyanoacrylate glue or with a slow-setting epoxy. Degrease unpainted metal parts before spraying and give them a base coat. On a Corsair with its inverted gull wing, watch the positioning of parts where the wing breaks, so that the metal part follows the shape and no gap appears.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
