A smoking infantryman of the French infantry of 1914 to 1918, a 1:48 collector figure from the Dynamo-Models brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
The figure shows a French infantryman of the First World War in a short quiet moment with a cigarette. It is a small but strong subject: a relaxed arm and a tilted head give away that fighting is not going on just now. Dynamo-Models lists the figure in 1:48 scale, that is in a size that fits even into a tight scene where a larger figure would get in the way.
From 1915 the French infantry wore a uniform in the famous light blue-gray shade known as bleu horizon, and with it a steel helmet with a crest. This combination is absolutely typical of the period and places the figure in time at once, without your having to explain the scene with a caption. For a modeler it is at the same time a pleasantly unconventional palette.
Mix the base rather cool and lighter than seems right; on a small area a color always darkens. Brighten by adding gray, not white, otherwise the shade will turn yellow. Keep the helmet darker than the blouse and gently suggest wear on the crest. The rest is finished by mud on the boots and on the lower hem of the coat, which ties the figure to the terrain and rids it of the impression that it has merely been set down on the piece.
