A comprehensive photo-etched set from Eduard for the overall improvement of a plastic model of the experimental Bell X-1 aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory. As an upgrade set it usually combines parts for several areas of the model at once, so as to raise the fidelity of the interior as well as the exterior details above the level of the base kit.
The Bell X-1 was an American experimental rocket aircraft in which the pilot Chuck Yeager became the first man to exceed the speed of sound, in 1947. The machine had a fuselage shaped like a bullet and was launched in the air from a mother bomber. It ranks among the most significant milestones of aviation history.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp knife on a hard backing and bend them in a photo-etch bending tool. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue or with epoxy. It is practical to paint the small parts before fitting them; apply a primer before painting so that the paint adheres to the metal.
This is a supplementary photo-etched set, not a stand-alone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
