A set of precise metal legs of the main landing gear for the XA2D-1 and A2D-1 versions from the maker Clear Prop Models. What you get is a set of landing gear legs, not a whole aircraft. Metal replaces the plastic parts at the place where the greatest load acts on a model over the long term.
The Douglas A2D Skyshark was a carrier attack aircraft developed from the proven piston-engined Skyraider but powered by a turboprop unit with a pair of contra-rotating propellers. The program was dogged by trouble with the powerplant and with the gearbox, series production got under way only on a tiny scale and the machine never reached squadron service. It thus remained an interesting transitional design between the piston and the jet era of carrier aviation.
Plastic legs bend in time on larger and heavier models, above all when the model has been supplemented with resin parts or with weight in the nose. A metal part keeps its shape. Degrease the surface before painting and use a primer meant for metal, otherwise the paint holds badly. Metal legs are bonded into the structure with super glue or with two-part resin; ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on them. Try the mating surfaces dry before you reach for the glue.
This is a targeted intervention in one node of a model, and it tells above all on the stability of the finished piece.
