1:48 Yak-28PP Brewer-E EXPERT kabuki masks

1:48 Yak-28PP Brewer-E EXPERT kabuki masks

This item is not a kit but a masking set in 1:48 scale from the brand New Ware. It covers the areas that are to stay free of paint after spraying, so the frames of the glazing and other divisions come out sharp even without patient work with a brush. The designation gives kabuki masks and the level EXPERT, the widest of the levels of scope the brand uses. For this aircraft the brand offers all three levels side by side, so EXPERT is the choice for anyone who wants to leave as much of the work as possible to the masks.

The real subject

The Yakovlev Yak-28 was a twin-engined aircraft with a high-set wing, engine nacelles beneath it and bicycle landing gear with outrigger wheels. A number of derived versions grew out of the bomber basis, and the Yak-28PP among them took on the jamming role: it carried equipment for suppressing enemy radars and escorted attack formations. The designation Brewer-E was assigned to it by the NATO code system. It was precisely the specialized versions that kept the type in active service considerably longer than the original bomber form.

Masking and painting tips

• Degrease the surface before masking and let the last coat cure completely.
• Transfer small pieces with tweezers and press them down in the corners as well.
• Spray thin coats, as a heavy application creeps under the edge of the mask.
• Work on one part of the model at a time rather than all at once, so that you leave yourself room for corrections.

Who the set is for

• Modelers building Soviet jet aircraft in 1:48 scale.
• Those who want the widest of the levels of scope the brand lists.
• Collectors of electronic warfare aircraft.
