The kit Fujimi 1:700 IJN Battleship Hiei Full Hull Model depicts the battleship with the hull over its full depth, that is below the waterline as well.
Responsibility details are not available.
Fujimi offers the battleship Hiei in a full-hull version as well. The Full Hull designation in the name of the item says that the model represents the hull over its full depth, that is including the underwater part, and not only down to the waterline.
The ships of the Kongo class were originally built as battlecruisers and the Imperial Japanese Navy later rebuilt them into fast battleships. It was that speed that made them units able to escort carrier forces and to intervene where slower ships would not have arrived in time. In that role the Hiei went through the first months of the war in the Pacific and was lost in November 1942 in the night actions off Guadalcanal.
Plan the build so that the hull does not have to be sanded again after spraying. On full-hull models the joint of the two hull halves runs the whole length, so it pays to spend time sanding and filling it. The model is then worth standing so that the shape of the bottom comes out. The finish of the underwater part differs in shade from the upper part, so define the dividing line with carefully applied tape.
The set is unassembled, without paints and without glue. Everything needed to finish it is bought separately, unless stated otherwise.
