Oil paints hold a special place among modeling paints. They dry slowly, so you can blend, tone down or wipe them away completely even after a good while. It is exactly this quality that makes oil a tool for fine transitions: runs down sheet metal, dirt around outlets, lightening the centers of panels or mottling a surface into irregular patches. None of that can be done so calmly with a fast-drying paint.
The package brings the complete range of ABT 502 oil paints together in one box, so you have the shades to hand and do not have to collect them one at a time. They suit armor, aircraft and figures equally and can be used on models whatever the scale.
Oil is applied to a surface sealed with varnish, best of all gloss or semi-gloss, because the excess can be wiped cleanly off a smooth area. Let a drop of paint stand on a piece of card for a while so that the paper draws off part of the binder, and only then pick it up with a brush. It is thinned with mineral spirits or with an odorless thinner, always a little at a time. Apply the paint in small dots and blend it with a soft brush or a cotton swab, drawing from top to bottom in the direction in which dirt would run down the real machine. Drying takes considerably longer than with acrylic, so allow for that before any further varnishing.
For modelers who do not settle weathering with a single wash and want the whole palette of shades to hand. Thinner, brushes and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
