1000 grit is among the fine grades. It hardly removes material at all, but it levels the traces of coarser grades and leaves a smooth, even surface behind. That is why it comes in toward the end of the work: after sanding filler back, after leveling the joint of two fuselage or hull halves, and before painting, when the base under the paint is meant to look uniform. For removing a pronounced unevenness it is needlessly fine; for that reach for a coarser grit and leave 1000 for the finishing.
The back carries an adhesive layer and the individual pieces are die-cut, so they peel off the backing and stick straight onto a flat block, onto a sanding stick or onto a shaped aid you make yourself. That gives you firm support and lets you draw the stroke straight, which is impossible with a loose sheet held in the fingers. The adhesive layer holds best on a clean, dry and degreased support, so get the dust from previous work off the sanding stick before you stick it on.
Press lightly and let the grit do the work. Heavy pressure creates a shallow hollow under your fingers that gloss paint will unfailingly betray. Draw the sanding stick in a straight stroke rather than in circles, otherwise swirl marks appear. Tap clogged grit out from time to time. After sanding, wipe the part, let it dry and degrease it before painting, because leftover sanding dust repels paint.
The sanding stick, the block, the model, filler and paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
