1:72 de Havilland Mosquito Mk.XVIII Tse-tse is a conversion set for Tamiya kits with a large-caliber weapon in the nose.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set makes it possible to finish a Mosquito fighter-bomber kit in 1:72 scale as the rare Mk.XVIII variant. It follows the shapes of kits from the Tamiya brand and concentrates on transforming the nose. It is an accessory with which an ordinary machine is turned into one of the most unusual aircraft of British Coastal Command.
The designers swapped the four 20 mm cannon in the nose for a single weapon of 57 mm caliber with automatic feed from the Molins company. The aircraft got its nickname from the biting fly whose single bite is enough. The machines operated over the Bay of Biscay against submarines and surface vessels, where the advantage of a single heavy blow could be exploited from a safer distance than rockets demanded.
The front of the fuselage is the most sensitive place in the conversion, so dry-fit the part and fill any gap with putty only once the joint has dried. Keep the barrel on the axis of the machine; a deviation shows on a finished model at first glance. Wash the sanded surface before painting and restore the panel lines that have been dusted over with a scriber, otherwise the base coat will flood them.
