The M270 rocket launcher grew up on a lengthened chassis derived from the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and carries twelve rockets of 227 millimeters caliber in a rotating container. The crew is three people in an armored cab at the front, a whole salvo leaves in under a minute and the machine then immediately changes position. The letter in the designation of the modernized form brought above all new electronics and the ability to launch guided munitions.
The Netherlands took the system into service while the Cold War was still on and after it ended got rid of its examples. Some of them went to Finland, which introduced them under a domestic designation of its own and operates them to this day. Both armies used a different camouflage scheme, so the set offers two distinctly different forms of one and the same machine.
Its deployment in the Gulf made it a household name and the nickname referring to steel rain caught on immediately. A single salvo covers an area corresponding to several football fields, which is at the same time the reason why a number of armies later moved away from unguided munitions in favor of precision-guided missiles launched from the same container.
The multicolor pattern is built up gradually: a light base, then covering the areas that are to stay, and the next tone. On the rocket container and on the cab it helps to warm the film between your fingers first, so that it follows the edges and corners better. Anyone who wants to make the work easier can spray the hull and the superstructure separately and join them only at the end.
The shipment contains only stencils. You obtain the kit and the coating materials separately.
