A limited edition masking set for the four-color hard-edged scheme of the Swedish Saab 37 Viggen in 1:32 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Saab 37 Viggen came out of a requirement that nobody else was setting: to take off and land on closed stretches of ordinary roads, to be serviced by a small team and to survive even without a classic air base. That is where its appearance comes from, with a canard foreplane ahead of the main delta surface and a thrust reverser in the nozzle. The most memorable thing, though, is the finish, a sharply broken four-color mosaic designed so that the machine would disappear against a Nordic landscape of forests, fields, water and rock.
The outlines of all four fields of the scheme are cut for the upper as well as the side surfaces of the airframe. This pattern is a legendary test of patience for modelers, because it contains dozens of irregular polygons that have to follow on across the wing, across the foreplane and across the tail section. Measuring it out by hand takes whole days and a single shifted corner carries on across the entire surface. The stencils turn the whole problem into mechanical work, in which only the order of the layers decides.
Spray from the lightest field and add the stencils step by step. Always press the film down properly before the next coat, because the number of layers here tends to be high and a failure to seat adds up.
A limited edition means a single production batch of that particular cut, so replacing a damaged part afterward from a second sheet is as a rule not possible.
