A set of self-adhesive masks for spraying the Italian mottled camouflage on a model of the Macchi C.202 Folgore fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Macchi C.202 Folgore came about by mating the airframe of the older C.200 type with the German Daimler-Benz DB 601 inverted V12. The license-built Alfa Romeo RA.1000 RC.41 gave the machine a speed of over six hundred kilometers per hour, and from the autumn of 1941 Italian pilots fought with it over North Africa and later over the Eastern Front and their home cities. They praised its maneuverability and criticized the weak armament of two 12.7 mm machine guns.
The most striking feature of the aircraft is the mottling known as smoke rings. Small arcs and loops in dark green cover the sand base in an irregular rhythm, and painting them freehand with a brush means hours of work with an uncertain result. The masks break the pattern down into individual segments that are laid on the surface and sprayed over with an airbrush.
Neither the plastic kit nor the paints belong with the set, so count on them separately. Let the base shade cure thoroughly before sticking the masks down, otherwise you risk tearing it away down to the plastic when peeling them off. Apply thin coats and lift the mask while the paint is still fresh, because the edges then come out sharp and you do not have to touch them up later.
