A figure of a French commando of Kieffer's unit in a marching pose, 1:48 scale. An accessory for a diorama of the fighting in Normandy.
Responsibility details are not available.
The French naval commandos under the command of Philippe Kieffer were the only French ground unit to land on the Normandy coast on 6 June 1944. They fought alongside the British commandos, went through the same hard training and used British equipment, so at first glance they differed little from their comrades. Their story still belongs among the strongest chapters of the French part in the landings, and among modelers there is lasting interest in it.
The figure is caught walking, that is in the pose that is easiest to work into a scene. A marching figure has a natural direction of movement and can therefore lead the viewer's eye across a diorama: toward a boat, a vehicle, a house at the edge of the scene. It also works well paired with another figure, where a slight turn of the head is enough to create a relationship between them. In 1:48 scale it suits models of aircraft, vehicles and buildings of the same size.
Wash and degrease the figure before painting, cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the area. A primer coat reveals any unevenness that is easily overlooked on a bare surface. Work in thin coats from the base shade toward the shadows and the highlights, leave the face until last and work on it in good light. With the equipment it helps to separate the areas by tone: cloth, leather straps and metal should each have their own character, otherwise the figure merges into one color.
The figure is supplied on its own. Paints, brushes and glue are not included in the box, unless stated otherwise.
