Tamiya Sanding Cloth, 1000 grit, is a flexible abrasive cloth (not sandpaper) measuring 170 x 130 mm, suitable for dry and wet sanding alike. Of the trio of grits 1000 / 1500 / 2000 it is the coarsest and stands at the beginning of the process.

One sheet of abrasive cloth measuring 170 x 130 mm from Tamiya, grit 1000. It is a tool, or rather a consumable abrasive material - it is not a kit and not a model. The backing is fabric, not paper, and that is the whole difference: the cloth is flexible, it adapts to rounded shapes, and when bent it does not fold into sharp edges or crack, so no deep scratches from a crease are left behind. It can be used dry and wet.
A simple rule applies: the higher the number, the finer the grit. Sanding proceeds gradually from coarser to finer, and each further step removes the scratches from the previous one. Of the trio 1000 / 1500 / 2000, the thousand is the coarsest and belongs at the beginning: it levels filled areas, smooths the remnants of sprue gates after the part has been nipped off the sprue, and roughly levels surfaces and joints. It is then followed by 1500 grit, and 2000 grit closes the process. No step may be skipped - coarse scratches would show through under the paint, and under a gloss color or a metallic every single one is visible.
For every modeler who wants a genuinely smooth base under the paint - and above all for anyone spraying a gloss or a metallic. In practice all three grits (1000, 1500 and 2000) are used one after another, and this one is first in line.
A tool and a consumable, not a kit. Dust from plastic and filler is harmful to health - do not inhale it. We recommend wet sanding, or else respiratory protection and ventilation.
