An injection-molded plastic kit of the American heavy wrecker Ward LaFrance Model 1000 in the Series 1 form (the early version) in 1:35 scale from Thunder Model. The detailed model captures the simpler layout of the first series – a manually operated crane boom, no rear winch and spare wheels stowed crosswise behind the cab. It contains carefully worked suspension, an engine, a cab interior and clear parts for the glazing.
The Ward LaFrance Model 1000 was an American 6x6 heavy wrecker of the Second World War, listed in the United States Army under the designation M1 and meant for recovering and towing damaged hardware straight in the field. Series 1 was the earliest and least numerous variant; it had a simpler cab, a front winch driven through the gearbox and a simple block and tackle instead of a rear winch. The later series gradually improved the vehicle.
Work in subassemblies; finish and paint the cab interior and the engine bay before they are closed up. Apply a primer and spray with an airbrush. The olive green finish comes to life with washes in the recesses, dust pigments and greasy effects on the crane, the pulleys and the working surfaces – wreckers were usually properly dirty. Mask the clear parts while painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
