The G-6 was produced in tens of thousands and became the backbone of the fighter units from 1943. The heavier 13 mm fuselage machine guns called for prominent covers in front of the cockpit, which German pilots nicknamed the bulges. The late batches were then given a lightened canopy with a better view, a taller tail surface and a lengthened tailwheel leg, thanks to which the aircraft stood on the ground at a different angle. It is precisely these features that set the late examples apart from the machines of early production and decide the fidelity of the finished model.
The set on offer is deliberately bare: it holds the injection-molded sprues and ends there. You get the structure of the airframe, while the belts, the instrument panel in metal, the masks and the markings are left to you.
Thin metal cannot carry a load. The landing gear struts, the legs with the wheels or the pylons under the fuselage have to be of a material that has a cross-section and stiffness, otherwise the model will sag after a few weeks in the display case. A photo-etched component cannot manage such a task even after annealing, because its strength is precisely the opposite, that is its tiny thickness. A sensible division of the work therefore runs: load-bearing parts from plastic or metal rod, flat details from brass. This set covers the first half of the equation and leaves the second to the equipment the builder chooses himself.
