Fifteen places for a squad

While two people sit in the cockpit, the rear part of the Black Hawk takes a whole squad. The folding seats along the walls and in the middle of the cabin hold the soldiers with a simple harness that can be released quickly, and with the side doors open those belts are the first thing a viewer sees. The set offers enough of them for fifteen places, so the whole compartment can be fitted out with nothing left bare.

The difference from an empty cabin shows at once. A folded seat with no harness comes across as a bare frame, whereas with the belts hanging loose the interior gains depth and scale. Anyone building a helicopter with the squad already dropped off, or with crew at the doors, will appreciate that some of the belts can be left undone and thrown over the cushion.

Fitting out the whole cabin has one more advantage: the belts give the eye a scale. Once there are fifteen of them in the compartment, it becomes clear how large the cargo space of the helicopter is and how much room is left for a soldier in full kit.

Procedure

The parts are cut out close to the printing, so that no glossy rim is left around the edge. After a brief dip they are transferred into place, where they can still be straightened for a while. Once dry, the belts will take a thin layer of matte varnish, which blends them with the surrounding interior.

The subject is the machine the US Army introduced as a replacement for the Iroquois and which has since flown most of the tactical transport in dozens of countries. The set holds only the belts for 1:32 scale; do not look in it for seats, an interior or a kit. It is worth putting the leftover parts aside, because they can be used when building another machine of the same family.
