A foam landing gear bay mask for the Spitfire Mk.I and Mk.II in 1:48 scale from Art Scale is simply pushed into the opening before spraying and taken out again once the paint is on, with no glue and no residue.

This is a masking aid, not a model of the aircraft. The set contains shaped foam inserts that fit exactly into the landing gear bays of a Spitfire Mk.I and Mk.II model in 1:48 scale. They go into the opening before spraying and are pulled out once the paint has dried. Compared with a conventional adhesive mask, the foam has the advantage that it holds by its own springiness, leaves no glue behind and does not damage the already painted interior of the bay.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I and Mk.II were the first production versions of the British fighter with the elliptical wing and the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. The main landing gear bays of the Spitfire are fairly shallow but clearly visible, and their interior differs in color from the underside of the wing. That is exactly why it pays to cover them reliably while spraying.
Paint the bay first and let it cure thoroughly, because the foam can leave an imprint in fresh paint. Push the insert in with a finger or a blunt stick so that it lines up with the surrounding surface; it must not stand proud, otherwise it will leave a shadow in the spray. Spray the paint in thin coats so that no ridge forms at the edge. Take the foam out with tweezers before the varnish has fully cured, which prevents the edge from being torn away. Handled with care, foam masks can be used repeatedly.
This is a modeling aid, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check that it matches your kit before buying.
